Learning Advisor


Hourly rate: £18.76

Location: Constable Building, University of Essex Campus, Colchester, CO4 3SQ



We are looking to hire 2 Learning Advisors to work with students studying at the University of Essex International College. The Learning Advisor role is key to this approach as it focusses on supporting individual students to achieve their full potential.



Our approach:


UEIC has been set up in partnership with the University of Essex to provide new routes for international students wishing to study degrees at the University. The University of Essex is one of the most international universities in Britain and is also known for its bold approach to teaching, research, and innovation. Located in the historic Constable Building on the University’s Colchester campus, the college delivers undergraduate Foundation Certificate, International Year One, Pre-Master’s and Pre-Sessional English programmes and a range of other support and extracurricular services.

To do this, we recognise the need to provide a flexible, responsive experience which meets needs of students who differ in background, requirements, and pace, one which enables them to become highly engaged students who take responsibility for their academic success.



Your role:


You will work with a caseload of students and:


  • Provide regular individual and group support and guidance.
  • Review academic progress with students and teachers.
  • Work with tutors and College Services staff through regular communication
  • Support students to get the most out of the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), MS Teams, Zoom and other platforms used by the college.
  • Signpost students to appropriate support and information where appropriate.
  • Support students to develop a reflective portfolio of their time within the college.
  • Support students to develop employability skills and behaviours.
  • Support students to develop appropriate academic skills.
  • Support students to have excellent attendance and engagement.
  • Provide feedback on individual students to staff and other stakeholders such as parents, sponsors, and agents.
  • Support students’ health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Provide guidance on good academic behaviours e.g., time management, organisation and planning, assessment.
  • Keep up to date and accurate records.
  • Supporting students to progress to the University of Essex

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to record information accurately and meet deadlines
  • A strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • A non-judgemental, confident, and mature approach to the student experience.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of different teams to continually improve the student experience.
  • The ability to provide consistently high-quality work, respond to feedback and be self-reflective
  • The ability to work confidently with IT systems and platforms
