Reporting to the Kaplan International Pathways Head of HR; this newly created role will be responsible for development, deployment and management of HR functions for Colleges and Residences in collaboration with group HR functions and business stakeholders.

The UK HR Team at Kaplan 

The HR team supports several education businesses that form Kaplan International. Being part of a group HR function with a dedicated Talent Acquisition team, HR Operations team, and Payroll team, we employ staff across teaching, operations, finance, marketing, IT, sales and customer service, from hourly paid teachers to commission-based sales staff and C-level executives, and working with colleagues on an international scale, the HR landscape at Kaplan International is truly diverse. 

The Role

  • Apply HR and business knowledge evidencing appropriate decision-making skills.
  • Drive alignment between HR strategy and our College and Residence goals by participating in the implementation of specific projects, procedures and guidelines tied to the strategic goals of the organisation.
  • Embed with College and Residence SMGs to build culture and engagement activities in line with HR and EDI strategy and business goals.
  • Advise managers on the terms and conditions of employment and contractual obligations and knowledge share best practice with them, with a particular focus on new managers.
  • Plan and participate in HR L&D activities in Colleges and Residences – including the coordination of training plans, development and delivery of training materials and assessment of workforce present and future skills.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of the workforce approach to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and wellbeing of our students and staff.
  • Provide advice on recruitment and selection strategies including safer recruitment and inclusive recruitment.
  • Participate in the development and enhancement of processes across the employee lifecycle including induction, performance and exits.
  • Continuously monitor and review HR policies and processes and feed into changes where necessary.
  • Support Payroll activities including monthly payroll checks
  • Support the HR advisor team in managing complex employee relations casework including dispute resolutions, disciplinaries, grievances, absence, retirement and redundancy.
  • Work with group HR functions – Operations, Recruitment and L&D to ensure best practice is deployed across Colleges and Residences teams.
  • Support change management processes and workforce planning activity.

About You

  • Sound judgement underpinned by detailed knowledge and practical experience of employment law and best practice 
  • Strong experience dealing with complex employee relations casework, restructuring and redundancy  
  • Able to establish and maintain strong relationships, and work effectively at all levels of the organisation 
  • Experience creating and delivering training f2f and online and developing guidance documents 
  • Experience of influencing and coaching colleagues and managers 
  • High level of personal credibility with the courage to challenge when required  
  • Ability to implement and evaluate HR improvement 
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to tight time deadlines 
  • Strong listening and communication (verbal/written) skills  
  • Solutions focussed and results orientated with strong attention to detail  
  • Self-sufficient and proactive in identifying opportunities to drive us forward 
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, in particular Excel and PowerPoint 
  • CIPD qualified (desirable) with evidence of continuous professional development
  • Experience in universities and higher education providers (Desirable)
