External Examiner Foundation Certificate for Science and Engineering at Nottingham Trent International College


Nottingham Trent International College, part of Kaplan International Pathways, is seeking an External Examiner Foundation Certificate for Science and Engineering for its Foundation Certificate (RQF 3 or SCQF 7), programme from January 2027.


Modules on the programme include: FC300 Extended Project, FC311 Intermediate Mathematics, FC304 Chemistry, FC301 Statistics, FC303 Biology, FC306 Entrepreneurship


Duties will involve:


  • Participating in and endorsing the outcomes of Assessment Boards through agreement at the meeting, or separately in writing if you are unable to attend

  • Ensuring that the recommendations of the Board are consistent with the aims and curriculum of the programme and with good HE practice

  • Reviewing the range of grades awarded and reviewing a sample of student work from across this range

  • Assessing and commenting on draft examination papers, other assessments and marking schemes

  • Providing feedback on aspects of good practice and innovation that have a positive impact on the student learning experience  

  • Submitting an annual report for each programme or stand-alone module(s) examined  


Candidates who wish to apply should be able to demonstrate evidence of the following:


  • Knowledge and understanding of UK sector agreed reference points for maintenance of academic standards and assurance and enhancement of quality

  • Competence and experience in the field of teaching and learning in HE

  • Relevant academic and/or professional qualifications

  • Competence and experience relating to designing and operating a variety of assessment tasks appropriate to the subject and operating assessment procedures

  • Sufficient standing, credibility and breadth of experience within the discipline to be able to command the respect of academic peers and, where appropriate, professional peers

  • Fluency in English

  • Competence and experience relating to the enhancement of the student learning experience.


Please note: We recruit only international students who typically have English as a second language, so Examiners with experience of the needs of international students would be particularly welcome.


We may also be able to consider applications from candidates who do not have previous experience as External Examiners but possess desirable specialist subject knowledge necessary to work and gain experience as an External Examiner.
